Created between Tokyo, Moscow, and Los Angeles with a portable studio and a power bank, DZA’s Bascar is an instrumental concept album with a storyline inspired by its settings. Engaging and exploratory, the producer’s first release for Alpha Pup covers fresh new ground with a coherent feeling of energy, vibe, and expansion.

“It gave me special pleasure to be in new, interesting places and write music right away,” explains Sasha Kholenko aka DZA. “These were the calm streets of Japanese fishing villages, parks, forests, bars and hotels. Many inspiring places. Sometimes I randomly went to music bars and asked to play my beats for random people, who never heard of my music before.” Akin to avant-garde theater, Bascar has no obvious narrative yet retains a connected plot through its art and track titles, which speak to Kholenko’s passion for sports cars and racing.

Originally from Vladivostok on the Pacific Coast in Russia, Sasha Kholenko was one of the first producers in the country to experiment with the electronic hip hop sound. Today, DZA is involved with numerous high-profile projects including soundtracks for TV series on HBO and Netflix plus brand collaborations with Yves Saint Laurent, Dior, and Coca-Cola. The RBMA alum runs the label How2make Records and is a member of the most iconic Russian rock band of the 2000s, Mumiy Troll.
